The Knucklehead was produced by Harley-Davidson® from 1936 until 1947 when it was replaced by the Panhead. The knucklehead is recognised by the distinctive shape of the rocker boxes which are shaped like the knuckles on a fist. The Knucklehead was the third type of V-Twin used by Harley-Davidson® and during its time it was the top of the line engine to have. During this period the engine was referred to as OHV’s in Harley-Davidson® official literature, the knucklehead name did not come around until the 1960’s.
